Assad Abdullatiff
He is the chief executive of AXIS Fiduciary Ltd, a leading Mauritius-based independent trust company providing a full spectrum of fiduciary and corporate services to an international client base. Assad Abdullatiff read for Bachelor of Law with Honours and a Master of Laws in the United Kingdom specializing in Business Law. Upon his return to Mauritius, he successfully sat for the Bar Vocational Course and was admitted to the Bar of Mauritius. He started his career in the financial services sector within a global fiduciary firm and counts several years of solid experience within the corporate and trust industry. Immediately prior to joining AXIS Fiduciary Ltd, Assad was an Assistant Director at the Board of Investment of Mauritius, where he was the Head of the Financial Services Cluster and responsible for the promotion of Mauritius as an International Financial Centre.
Assad’s areas of expertise spans the following areas: corporate law & governance, tax planning and structuring, fund formation & administration, company secretarial, trusts and estate planning. He has a keen interest in Trusts & Estates and is a full member of the Society of Trusts & Estate Practitioners (STEP) where he is very involved both at the domestic and international level. He was the past Chairman of the Mauritius branch of STEP and is a member of STEP Council since 2011 representing the African and Arabian regions.
Assad Abdullatiff regularly speaks and contributes to various international publications/conferences on his areas of expertise. In view of his involvement in the drafting of the Mauritius Foundations Act, for the second year running, Assad Abdullatiff was invited to write the Mauritius chapter of “Private Foundations: A World Review” published by Trusts & Trustees which the leading international journal on trust law and practice. Assad Abdullatiff also serves as independent Director on a number of companies in Mauritius operating in diverse economic sectors.
